Our Story

Our story begins with a letter. A letter penned in French, by one of the greatest writers of his time, Benjamin Franklin.

The letter was addressed to Franklin’s friend, Abbe Morellet, stating, “We hear of the conversion of water into wine at the marriage in Cana, as of a miracle...Behold the rain which descends from heaven upon our vineyards, and which incorporates itself with the grapes to be changed into wine; a constant proof that God loves us, and loves to see us happy”.

This letter about a man who loved his wine, over the course of centuries, was shed of its origin and changed countless times into the quote most often heard today - “Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy” ~ Benjamin Franklin (well maybe not).

Well maybe our story really isn’t about Franklin’s letter. Actually, thankfully it’s not, because a story about wine would be boring.

Our story is much more interesting. It’s about how a microbrewery came to open in the heart of Rocky Mount, Virginia, coined by its locals as the “Moonshine Capitol of the World”.

While we take our name, Living Proof Beer Company, from that misquote of Benjamin Franklin’s letter; we have set out to create our own story, while holding true to our belief that “Beer is Living Proof that life ain’t too bad” ~Living Proof Beer Company.

 About Us

Living Proof Beer Company made its grand opening in June 2022, becoming the newest microbrewery in the Roanoke Valley area. Located at 50 W. Court Street, Living Proof Beer Company became the first microbrewery to open in the heart of downtown Rocky Mount, Virginia; an achievement we are so proud to share with our local community!

Living Proof Beer Company produces a wide variety of beers on rotating taps, including our flagship ales & lagers, as well as specialized and seasonal beers & seltzers. The microbrewery features a 3.5 barrel system, which enables us to create such a wide variety of unique beers, all with superior taste!

Living Proof Beer Company is operated by Head Brewer Robert Amos, who has over fifteen years of experience brewing and was most recently the assistant Brewmaster at Olde Salem Brewing. Robert Amos and his team are excited to create a unique experience for the greater Roanoke Valley area and hope that Living Proof Beer Company can be a place Rocky Mount locals call a second home!
